Building Facade Cleaning Systems

Facade cleaning systems depend on the curtain wall structure supporting them. APEX EcoBuilt manufactures the structure with anchor points, load paths, and materials designed to support cleaning access.

APEX does not supply davits, BMUs, water-fed poles, or other cleaning rigs. These come from a separate access-equipment supplier. Before extrusion, BIM and FEA verify that the facade can accommodate the required access loads.

Curtain Wall Maintenance Access Engineering

APEX uses BIM and FEA to simulate wind loads, thermal stresses, and seismic movement across the curtain wall structure before extrusion begins. That same modeling lets architects and contractors coordinate where third-party maintenance equipment — davits, BMU rails, telescopic pole anchors — can tie into the structure without discovering load conflicts after installation.

Design provision What gets engineered How it's determined
Anchor point load path Structural route carrying access-equipment loads back into the primary frame Project-specific BIM/FEA model, not a standard catalog figure
Davit / outrigger base coordination Placement of reinforced zones where a supplier's davit or outrigger base can land Set jointly with the access-equipment supplier's layout drawings
Mullion reinforcement options Local stiffening at attachment zones where the standard profile needs added capacity Selected per building height, facade material, and equipment type

Because these figures vary with building height, facade material, and the specific rig a client's access-equipment supplier specifies, APEX does not quote a fixed load rating or base-spacing number outside of a project's own BIM/FEA model — anyone quoting a universal figure for a curtain wall they haven't modeled is guessing.

Engineering Support for Access & Load Planning

APEX uses BIM and FEA to coordinate curtain wall load paths with the attachment points required by davit and BMU suppliers before construction begins.

Access-equipment suppliers handle rig design and compliance under standards such as EN 1808, ANSI/IWCA I-14.1, OSHA 1910.27, and BS 8560. APEX coordinates the curtain wall structure, while buyers should verify final equipment compliance directly with the supplier.

APEX holds 179+ patents and certifications, but not against any specific access-equipment standard. Project-specific attachment layouts and load data are developed during design review rather than published as generic specifications.

This approach has been applied to the Guangxi Canghai Distribution Center and the KLCC Cultural Hub Podium.

Matters

Where This Matters Most

Maintenance-access planning matters most on buildings with tall, continuous glass or metal elevations and long ownership horizons:

  • Commercial Buildings

  • Hotels & Resorts

  • Office & Mixed-Use Projects

  • Residential Developments

Office towers, retail podiums, and mixed-use developments carry the largest continuous glazed elevations and the longest maintenance schedules, which is why commercial facade systems for office, retail & mixed-use projects are where access-point coordination gets planned earliest and pays off most.

Request a Facade Access & Maintenance Consultation

The most cost-effective way to solve facade maintenance access is to specify it when you specify the curtain wall, not after handover. Send your elevation drawings and cleaning-access requirements to APEX's engineering team for a load-path review, or request the anchor-point coordination details your access-equipment supplier will need.

Why APEX

Why Specify With APEX EcoBuilt

APEX manufactures curtain wall systems from a 150,000 m² factory, backed by 20 years of industry experience and 179+ patents and certifications. That scale supports custom mullion and transom engineering for complex building skins — including the load-path coordination that maintenance access equipment depends on — rather than a generic catalog frame retrofitted after the fact.
